Gaze not at
me with your misty eyes
While we dance no
soft words must you sing.
I feel your lips
brush across my cheeks
Like the flutter of
butterfly wings.

Please recall what
I said when we met.
My broken heart
yearns not for romance.
Friendship is all I
can offer you
And love stands not
a bit of a chance.
The roses you send
me are lovely
My office girls
wait for them each day.
Sometimes the
florist sends twenty five
But who’s counting
the fragrant bouquets?

My family has grown
quite fond of you.
They will miss you
if you walk away.
Dad likes the way
you laugh at my jokes,
The sincere
compliments that you pay.
The evening breeze
has a cooling touch
But it’s warm where
your hand gently roams.
Whisper not words
of love in my ear
For a shiver just
ran through my bones.
Perhaps it’s the
stars or candle light
But I feel myself
being bewitched.
Your arms as we
dance could be tighter
And my lips have
developed a twitch.
Oh Dear! I feel my
walls falling
Could it be that
you’re perfect for me?
What’s this? A
sparkling diamond ring
Engraved with
Please Let Our Love Be.

My answer Sweet Man
Of Persistence
The chances are
Our chances are
Awfully good.
