Positively Autumn

Summer was but an opening act

for this Autumn season peaking.

Curtain risen, it’s here to behold -

turn off that TV, go seeking!

Outside you’ll find nature’s spectacle,

vivid backdrops mysterious;

magenta, scarlet, pumpkin and gold -

artists palettes delirious.

A warm breeze no longer sweltering

tickles cheeks and ruffles your hair

like a long-lost lover just returned

brings welcomed past pleasures to share.

Faint cheers from a distant football field

stir tastes of hot dogs and cocoa.

Delighted shouts from neighborhood kids

echo jumps in raked leaves, loco.

Smoke drifting from impatient chimneys

mingled with spiced apples baking

carries the scents of dewy-eyed times;

tingles of innocence aching.

Snuggles emerge in the evenings

as sunset’s cool air fills the nights.

Cricket choirs float through open windows;

symphonies of soft lullabies.

Appreciate, savor these moments;

this gift of Autumn days pleasant.

Rustling leaves just whispered your name -

it's your cue - open your present!

Caring Thoughts

Late at night, the moon stands still,
The lonely cry of a whippoorwill,
So deep in thought, I wonder when,
We'll ever meet, I'll wait till then.

For you, my heart was taken, dear,
And one day soon you'll find me here,
The caring felt across the miles,
Makes morning's glow begin with smiles.

You've touched my life in such a way,
I think about you everyday,
I'd love to look within your eyes,
And see your soul, my spirit cries.

Tonight, I'll say a prayer for you,
And ask my God to see you through,
Tomorrow with the rising sun,
I'll pray God's will for all be done.
