Celebrate Their Lives

September 11, 2002

As bright balloons cannot float freely

While tethered and held tightly to earth,

Our grief grasps the spirits of loved ones

And they cannot explore heaven’s mirth.

In honor of those precious ones lost

On that fateful day last September

Might we celebrate their vibrant days

As they would like us to remember?

In respect to those who were parents,

Spend this day sharing joy with your kids.

Chase waves at the beach, play some baseball

And thank God you are here to do this.

Each one has a mother and father

Who cherished their sweet hug and soft kiss.

Tell yours today how much you need them

And be patient when they reminisce.

For those who cannot touch their true loves

Nor send pink roses to their sweethearts,

Hold your beloved close on this day.

When night falls, sit and gaze at the stars.

Sisters, brothers, and many best friends

Wish they could hear one voice on the phone.

Call yours on this day just to say “Hi”

Tell jokes that tickle their funny bone.

Our angels have no need for more tears,

Show our esteem by sending them love.

Pray for their peace, cut the bonds of grief

Let them soar in the wind with the doves.
